Re: Betzgen
John Peter Strayer (Streher) came to Pa. from the Providence of Starkenburg, County of Sponheim in 1751.
1st wife: Anna Barbara BURGHAR having died in 1764.
2nd wife: Jacobina STOUCH (Stauch) in 1766. He was nearly as old as her father.Children from both of these marriages were:
- Peter Strayer (my ancester) born 1770 in Dover, York Co. Pa. married Catherine SENEFF (Senft)
Children:
- John born 1811 m. Susan SCHWARTZ He went to Ohio
- Andrew Strayer youngest son grew to manhood, don't know his wife. Andrew had several children and John was a common name with the family so it is a good chance that he may be the one you are looking for as that branch stayed in Pa.
- John Nicholas Strayer born York Co.PA
- John Matthias Strayer
- John Jacob Strayer

A short outline of my Strayer lineage:
I will start by stating that my 90 year old Aunt (Strayer) Brown of York says that we are NOT related to the other Strayers of York County.
I know that there are family ties to the Strayers in Juniata County. Milton Strayer kept a Diary in the year 1880, the year of his marriage to Alice Houtz of Freeburg. For the first two months of that year they are in Freeburg and Milton is searching for a job in the area. In March they go to South Bend, IN and he commences working for a AS Kerns Dry Goods store after an absence of three months. In the remainder of the year, each month he borrows $5.00 from Jacob Strayer.
I have found this Jacob Strayer to be from McAllisterville, Juniata County, PA. He married Caroline Roberts, from McAllisterville who died, then he moved to Miamisburg, OH for several years before settling in South Bend where he had a large grain drill company.
There is a map of South Bend at the LOC (Library of Congress) that shows his establishment. He married Ada Stroop and had several children and he died in IN in 1909. I have a copy of the newspaper obit. I am happy to report that Milton settled his debt with Jacob Strayer at the end of the 1880 year! They (Milton and Alice) often visit the Strayer during the year but Milton never refers to the relationship whether Uncle or cousin...just as the Strayers.
