When the family property was confiscated by the English Crown, John and Mary Ann took refuge in Ireland. Mary Ann Wallace is a desendent to family of Sir William Wallace. They left Renfrew County Scotland in 1748 and lived in Ireland where they stayed until 1752, at which time they arrived in America and settled in Frederick Co. VA. They stayed in Frederick Co.,VA until 1776 when they moved to Orange Co.VA. In 1770, they moved to Hacker's Creek, Harrison Co. VA. ( a portion of that County is now Lewis Co.,WV) to be near their oldest daughter, Margaret Sleeth-Hacker and her family. John was a Leiutenant on the Ohio-West Virginian Frontier during the Revolutionary War.

Alexander was the first settler on the mouth of Turkey Run on the Buckhannon river, Upsur Co. WV. He fought in the American Revolution, records are in National #14017 DAR. In 1805 he and his family left Lewis Co. WV for Mad River Settlement, Greene Co. OH. He was accompanied by his wife's parents. David and Lydia BALL-SMITH, and several of his nieces and nephews; children of John and Margaret SLEETH-HACKER and other relatives who were then grown and had families of their own. He stayed until the end of the War of 1812, and then went to Fayette Co. IN in 1815. Here the family settled on the west fork of the White River near present day Waterloo, Wayne Co. IN. Alexander died 14 May 1820 in Fayette Co. IN and was buried near Waterloo, Wayne Co. IN. Ann Nancy died 25 Nov 1834 in Shelby Co. IN and was buried in Marion Cemetery, Shelby Co. IN where she had moved in 1821. Ann Nancy and her children, several of whom were now married, and settled on Blue River, not far from present day Marion. She died at the home of her youngest daughter, Susannah SLEETH-SENEY. Her Father,David Smith died a year later and is buried at her side.

Ira and Susannah first five children were born in Indiana (IN) before they moved to Macon County, MO in 1835. Susannah died 2 Jan 1890. Her clothing caught fire from an open fireplace, either as some thought, from the ashes of her clay pipe, or she may have had a heart attack.
