Christian served with Colonel George Washington in 1754-1757 during the French and Indian War. During British Gen. Braddock's defeat at Fort Duquesne he was with Washington's contengient that escaped. Christian was qualified as a 'Lieutenant of Foot' in 1757. His name was spelled BUMBGARNER by Col. Washington in the ledger of application's for soldier's rights.

Christian joined General Washington at the outbreak of the American Revolution. He was with Gen. Washingtion at Valley Forge in 1778, and also are records of him fighting in Michael Reader's Company of Militia. He also fought along with : Jacob BRUNER, husband of Mary Bumgardner-Bruner and their son John BRUNER.

David probably died in the Revolutionary War. His widow Catherine applied for a pension. Pension # W5968 in Index of Revolutionary War Pension Applications, page 120. Name misspelled as BOMGARDNER.

Leonard BUMGARDNER, Private, Virginia b. c. 1755 Germany d. 24 Mar 1839 PA. Married: Margaretha

Leonard was a Hessian soldier, who came with the English army to America during the Revolution. He deserted from the ranks, enlisted under Washington and fought for freedom. After the war he settled in York, Lancaster Co.,PA, where he followed his trade of a Dyer.

Son: Thomas BUMGARDNER b.1782 d. 4 Mar 1872, York, Lancaster Co.,PA and was a Hatter and Furrier by trade. Married: Elizabeth GARTMAN.

GrandSon: Henry BUMGARDNER b. 9 Feb 1821 York, Lancaster Co., PA d.? Married: 1st: Anna KURTZ,b.?PA d.? PA issue four children. 2nd: Mrs. Mary S. CADWELL.b.?CT. d.?PA. Henry was in the coal, gas, and lumber business. President of Lancaster Gas Co., Consumer's Gas Company of Reading, and a partner in the Hubley Manufacturing Co.in Lancaster City at his death.
