Original Painting: 1988: Oil on Masonite. 18x24inches.
Private Collector : California

I have been painting northern Arizona for almost four decades. The original painting of Lipon Point was referenced from my own photography and is one of our favorite south rim views of the Grand Canyon. Besides hiking into the Grand Canyon from the Rim many times I have done a dozen 14 day Colorado River trips through the Grand Canyon and Marble Canyon hiking and exploring the many beautiful side canyons that have also inspired other paintings over the years.

Kokopelli
KOKOPELLI
The Anasazi Humpbacked Flute Player
Images are of the Offered Print
Original Painting: 1985: Acrylic on Canvas 22x30 in.
Private Collector: Alaska

Among the rock art sites and symbols I have seen and recorded over the years none has intrigued me from the beginning as the depiction and story of Kokopelli. There is much written by researchers into the ancient peoples of the southwest about the representation of Kokopelli. I have represted him as a young man with his seed bag beside him and playing his flute, calling the life forces in the ancient days of the Anasazi cliff dwellers.
Known by the name of his modern Pueblo kachina counterpart, Kokopelli, this figure is one of the few that has survived in recongnizable form from the ancient days of the Anasazi into modern times. His representation has been found as rock art of early Basketmaker III (500AD) sites to the Anasazi Pueblo III (1200 AD) cliff dwellings as rock art drawings, Kiva wall paintings and ceramics.
