Inspired by my studies of the Anasazi Culture, Cliff Dwellings and Rock Art. Kokopelli is the young boy playing his flute with his seed bay beside him. Anasazi Cliff dwelling in the ear-like overhang in background.

Inspired by my trips into Havasupai Canyon via the Colorado River and from Hualipai Hilltop. Mount Sinyala and the Prince and Princess of Supai in the distance.


Shaloko Taka

Inspired by the influence of the Hopi People. My visits to the Hopi Mesa's with Randall Honwisioma, (Born Moshongovi in 1906, Parrott Clan, one of the first Hopi silversmiths in the late 1940's). Randall was my nieghbor and friend in Williams in the 1970's.
Three quarter's blind by the time we met. Our twice a months trips up 'Home' were always an adventure.

Inspired by a winter spent living near the Coyote and Baboquivari Mts. west of Tuscon. Hiking and exploring, listening to the coyote's laugh after sunset and watching the red tailed hawk nests.

Cohonina Hunters

I have been coming to this special place since the early 1970's. It was an important place of the ancient Cohonina People who left many pictographs here representing clans and initiation glyphs. There is also one very special. It showed 'the way we hunt the deer'.


Saddle Canyon

Inspired by my rafting trips down the Colorado River. Saddle Canyon is in the Marble Canyon part of the Grand Canyon. It's a nice short hike back up into the canyon for this view of the falls surrounded by Monkey Flower's.

Mong Kiva

Mong Kiva is at the Hopi Village of Mishongovi, where Randall Honwisioma was born in 1906. With Randall I've watched many of the Hopi Kachina Dances and in 1974 I was fortunate to see the Snake-Antelope Dances from a rooftop overlooking the kisva (plaza) below.

Old Ranch Ruin : Northern Arizona

This compostion of the San Francisco Mountians, which we who live in northern Ariozna call the 'Sacred Peaks' includes this old ranch home ruin. It was built with adobe in the late 1920's by a Hopi man who farmed beans.

Hidden Canyon

Inspired by my rafting trips down the Colorado River. Markatamiba Canyon is in the Grand Canyon part of the Grand Canyon Nat'l Park. It's a great place to stop on river trips and hike far back up into the canyon. Here my compostion includes a cliff grainary ruin with the moonlight.

Bert Loper Canyon
Bert Loper Canyon: Mile 41 Colorado River, Grand Canyon, Arizona 1986

Inspired by my rafting trips down the Colorado River. Bert Loper Canyon is in the Grand Canyon part of the Grand Canyon Nat'l Park. It was named after pioneering river runner Albert 'Bert' Loper 'The Old Man of the River'. He wanted to celebrate his 80th birthday running through the Grand Canyon again. It was 1949 he was with Wayne Nichols when they upset at 241/2 mile Rapids. Nichols made it to some rocks and shouted at Bert as he floated by looking straight down river and that was the last anyone ever saw of him.The ruins of their wooden boat are below the mesquite tree where it was found. Bert's skull and some bones were eventually found in a driftwood pile at Cardenas Creek about 46 miles from the accident in 1975 by hikers.

This old 40's Ford drew my attention years ago, nested in the tall Ponderosa pine forest in northern Arizona. What tales this old car could tell !

This ruin edges a little canyon near Lomaki Ruin called Box Canyon. There are several other smaller ruins nearby.

Moon rising over Mingus and the people of the past mingle with thos of the present. There is a surreal vibe in the air! Thirty years ago I roamed all over the old ghost town and very few people lived there. Today it bussles with a poulation of artists, shop keepers and nostolgia.

One of my favorite ruins. Built by the Sinagua people on a rock formation in the middle of Ka-Na-Na Wash. The entire area saw an increase in population in the years following the eruption of Sunset Crater in about 1068AD.

The snake is the Hopi messenger. After the Snake Dances they are released to carry the peoples prayer's far and wide over the land.

One of my very early works inspired by my lifelong studies of the ancient southwestern and plains cultures. Somehow I am the vision seeker. My friend, the great eagle has given me one of his feather's. I can feel it's power as I glide from world to world.

On a Colorado river trip some of us hiked up Basalt Canyon and came upon the skeletal remains of this Big Horn. It is very rare to see remains all intact, we all felt sadness but it was an honored discovery.

You have to hike down the Bass Trail in the Grand Canyon to the Colorado River to see the Ross Wheeler. It was built by Albert 'Bert' Loper near the Green River and named after a murdered friend.

One of my first big wave paintings. I used several photographs taken by big wave photographer's as reference's to compose this painting. One of my Navy sons living in Hawaii has been surfing several years lends his expertise and critique's. He owns this painting.
